Erudus API Overview

This guide is for non-technical users and will provide some further information about the Erudus API, which aims to clarify what the API is, who uses it, and how and why it's important.

What is the Erudus API?

The Erudus API (Application Programming Interface) is a technical bridge that allows different software systems to "talk" to each other directly and automatically exchange product data with the Erudus platform.

A simple way to think about it is:

  • Imagine Erudus as a giant, incredibly organised digital library of product information. It holds millions of details about ingredients, allergens, nutrition, packaging, and more.
  • An API is like a very specific, efficient librarian who can instantly fetch or file books for you, but only if you ask them in a very precise way. Instead of you, a human, manually searching or typing, your other computer systems can send requests to this "librarian" (the Erudus API) and get exactly the information they need, or send information for filing.

Who uses the API and how?

The Erudus API is broken into two interactions. Pushing data in or pulling data out.

For Food Manufacturers/Brand Owners (Sending Data IN):

The API allows their internal systems (like ERP systems, inventory software, or product databases) to automatically push their detailed product specifications directly into Erudus. This eliminates the need for manual data entry into the Erudus portal, saving immense time, reducing errors, and ensuring their Erudus data is always up-to-date with their internal records.

For Wholesalers, Caterers, and Retailers (Pulling Data OUT):

It enables their own software (like e-commerce websites, point-of-sale systems, recipe management platforms, or internal databases) to automatically pull the latest, accurate product information out of Erudus. This means they can instantly access allergen lists for menus, nutritional data for labels, product images for their websites, or any other detail, without manual searching or copying.

Why is the API important?

  • Automation: Drastically reduces manual data entry and retrieval.
  • Accuracy: Minimises human error by ensuring data is transferred directly between systems.
  • Up-to-dateness: Ensures that all connected systems always have the most current product information, crucial for things like allergen compliance.
  • Efficiency: Saves significant time and resources across the entire supply chain.
